
About The Artist Garden
James Stephenson’s landscaping experience spans more than 30 years. He studied Landscape Architecture at Rhode Island School of Design (RISD).
James Stephenson specializes in Hardscape installation, particularly Bluestone, as well as the use of brick and other stone elements for the construction of patios, walls, and walkways. He also specializes in fence and decking and all aspects of garden design and maintenance, from plants to turf installation, irrigation and lighting. His many clients appreciate his friendly, personal approach to the design and implementation of each project. He has been cited for his work in the New York Times article “A Garden Reborn” and featured in Architectural Digest and the Wall Street Journal.
James is the acclaimed author of The Language of the Land: Living Among the Hadzabe in Africa. He has also qualified and completed the Ironman World Championship in Kaliua-Kona Hawaii.
He has lived and worked in Brooklyn Heights and NYC for over 30 years and continues to install gardens throughout the five boroughs.
Alexa Stephenson specializes in residential city gardens that blend strong structural elements with naturalistic planting. A graduate of El Bosque College in Bogotá, Colombia, with a degree in Industrial Design, she creates low-maintenance landscapes that are both visually captivating and environmentally sustainable. Rooted in her Colombian heritage, Alexa has a deep passion for plant design, skillfully combining rich textures and vibrant colors to craft landscapes that feel both organic and intentional.
Pars Moghbel Assoc. AIA is currently a principal at Modalita LLC (design and furniture imports firm) and a design consultant at the Artist Garden. He holds a Master of Architecture from the University of Pennsylvania.
Pars has worked on many residential projects and gardens throughout Brooklyn, Queens, and Manhattan. Previously, he was a principal at a Design Build company for over 4 years in addition to a consultant and project architect on many structures and hardscapes.
